2 Atlete van Hoerskool Parel Vallei het uitstekend gevaar by die onlangse Boland Atletiekkampioenskappe wat by Daljosafat in die Paarl gehou is.

Op die foto is Annamart Laubscher wat ‘n silwer medalje verower het in die 3 000m vir dogters 0/19 met ‘n tyd van 11:21,40.

Michael Pienaar, langasemsensasie, het twee goue medaljes verower. Hy wen die 3 000m vir seuns 0/17 in ‘n pragtyd van 8:46,49 en hy wen ook die 1 500m in ‘n tyd van 8:46,49

35 Athletes from Parel Vallei High School participated in the Boland Athletics Championships at Daljosafat Stadium in Paarl on the 3^rd and 4^th of March. On the photograph are the athletes that achieved medals at the meeting.

One of our past pupils, Jade Mayne , is currently playing in the Olympic Qualifier in India. They have to win this tournament to play in the Olympics in July. So far they are on track and have not lost a match. Here is a stunning photo of Jade playing against India – they beat India 5 – 2.

Esther Van Zyl, Parel Vallei se Dux leerling vir 2011 staan hier tussen die Hoofseun, Charl Cillie (links) en Onderhoofseun, Duayne le Roux (regs) wat albei vir al hulle vakke A’s behaal het. Esther, ook een van die Leerderraadslede, het weer die beste punte in die skool behaal en spog met ‘n gemiddeld van 91,5%. Sy het vir al haar vakke A’s behaal. Parel Vallei is baie trots op sy leiers wat so goed presteer het. Die Hoofmeisie Morgan Wolf en die Onderhoofmeisie, Sasha Lee Fagan, het puik presteer en ook “A” gemiddeldes behaal. Ongelukkig was hulle nie beskikbaar vir die foto nie.

209 Parel Vallei matriculants passed their NSC examinations last year, a 100% pass rate. Here they are receiving the good news! Not one of them failed and their class produced an unprecedented 95,2% Matriculation Exemption rate (Bachelor’s Pass). 53 of their classmates achieved “A” aggregates and the class average was 71%. These are excellent results and the Headmaster and Staff are delighted with the School’s repeated academic success. The SGB and Parents of Parel Vallei extend their congratulations to all the matrics and wish them every success for their future. One result is still outstanding as Konrad Nel was ill during the examination and will be writing his Science Papers in February. He has already passed all his other subjects and he is expected to achieve an “A” aggregate as well. This should bring the school’s tally of “A” aggregates to 54!

Steff Burrows (Gr.8) is one of 5 surfers invited to participate in the SA Junior U16 Surfing Trials to be held in Durban on 10 and 11 December 2011.

The SA Junior team will compete in the World Championships in Panama in the second quarter of 2012.
Steff is stoked and will be going full out to earn his National Colours!

• Michelle ended 3rd at the South African Junior Nationals Open tournament in the u/14 girls section in December 2010.
• She was invited to the National closed competition in April where the top 10 players in South Africa in there relevant age groups play to obtain South African Chess colours. This was the 4th time she was invited to this prestigious tournament. She did not obtain SA colors this year.
• Michelle played in the Common Wealth Chess Championship during June 2011.
• Michelle played various tournaments during 2011
  • She performed well in all the WP school competitions and obtained her WP Schools Colours in the u/16 age group (boys and girls)
  • At the regional Western Cape School Chess tournament she came second. This is the top girls and boys u/16 from SWD, Boland and WP Schools.
  • Michelle came second at the inaugural WPCCU open in the B section
  • Michelle has been selected best lady chess player in two WPCCU Opens, A-section this year. She is playing excellent chess at the moment beating players with 200 rating points and more above her rating on a regular basis in the Western Cape.
• One of her highlights this year was when she represented Parel Vallei in the Top Schools u/17 competition on board one. Parel Vallei did exceptionally well this year and Michelle is looking forward to represent Parel Vallei at the Top Schools Nationals in 2012.
